Editorial Standards

Editorial Policy

Our commitment to accuracy, independence, and consumer protection guides every review and listing on CreditDoc.

Editorial Independence

CreditDoc's editorial team operates independently from our business and advertising operations. Editorial reviews, correction decisions, and stored Google rating data are never influenced by compensation arrangements.

Companies cannot pay to change stored Google rating data, receive preferential placement in editorial content, or remove negative information. Affiliate relationships are disclosed transparently on every page where they exist. See our Affiliate Disclosure for full details.

Listing Criteria

Not every company that applies or is discovered will be listed on CreditDoc. We apply the following criteria:

Companies We List

  • Actively operating consumer financial service providers (credit repair, lending, debt relief, credit building, credit monitoring, pawn services, ATM networks)
  • Cross-referenced against government databases (FDIC, NCUA, HUD), public business registries, or direct website references
  • Non-profit credit counseling agencies approved by HUD or accredited by the NFCC

Companies We Exclude

  • Companies with active FTC or CFPB enforcement actions for deceptive practices
  • Companies that charge upfront fees in violation of the Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA)
  • Businesses that are not consumer financial services (retail stores, restaurants, etc.)
  • Companies that have ceased operations or are no longer accessible

Review Process

Each company listed on CreditDoc goes through a structured review process:

1

Data Collection

We gather information from government databases (FDIC, NCUA, HUD, CFPB), the Better Business Bureau, the company's own website, and public user review platforms.

2

Source Checks

We check whether the company appears active, review pricing references from public or provider sources, and cross-reference regulatory records for any enforcement actions or complaints.

3

Analysis & Review

We evaluate public company data, services, pricing, BBB information, CFPB complaints, regulatory records, and consumer-facing availability. Visible star ratings are separate and use stored Google rating data when available. See our Methodology for details.

4

Publication

The completed profile is published with clear pros, cons, pricing, and a factual description. Companies are notified and invited to submit corrections or source updates for their listing details.

5

Ongoing Monitoring

Listings are reviewed through scheduled data refreshes, editorial passes, and source updates. CFPB complaint data is updated daily. Companies with significant changes are re-evaluated when those changes are identified.

Currentness, Sources & CreditDoc Opinions

CreditDoc pages reflect the information available to us at the time of publication or last update. Our source mix may include provider websites, public regulatory databases, BBB information, Google rating data, public complaint data, and other public records. Because providers, prices, ratings, availability, and policies can change quickly, a listed fact may become outdated between review cycles.

Some content on CreditDoc is factual source data; some content is editorial opinion. Reviews, comparisons, "best fit" guidance, pros and cons, and ranking or recommendation language are CreditDoc's own assessment based on the data available at the time. These opinions are intended to help consumers compare options, not to guarantee results or replace direct verification with the provider.

Consumers should confirm current pricing, terms, guarantees, eligibility, and availability directly with the provider before making a financial decision.

Sponsored Content & Advertising

CreditDoc clearly distinguishes between editorial content and advertising:

  • Affiliate links are identified in our Affiliate Disclosure and noted on individual review pages. Clicking these links may earn CreditDoc a commission at no cost to you.
  • Sponsored listings, if any, will be clearly labeled as "Sponsored" or "Ad" and will never be presented as editorial reviews.
  • Editorial content (reviews, comparisons, guides) is written by our research team and is never reviewed or approved by the companies being evaluated.
